In November of last year, I was contacted about helping with the logo design for country music band The Easy Leaves, here in Northern California.
The design for this logo was unlike my usual process of presenting multiple initial concept designs, as the band already knew exactly what they wanted. They had previously commissioned an artist in Berkley to create a pencil sketch for the new logo, which became the starting point for me to create a usable logo design for their website, marketing and print materials, and album covers.
This is the initial sketch I was given to work with, done by Golden West Sign Arts.
My part was to transform the sketch into a single graphic that could be used across all forms of media. Here’s a look at a screenshot during the design process—
The scope of the project included cleaning up the sketched lines, altering the placement and spacing of the words and letters, and adding some extra flourish. I created two versions of the logo—the first one shown here is more like the original sketch, complete with a 3D effect. The alternate design shown below is a flat version of the logo, for use in various instances where the 3D version was not ideal.
